Hunter Hayes is one of those underrated artists who keeps reinventing his sound with every release. His core is there—the superb songwriting that tells a story and the instrumentation you only hear from genius musicians. But then there’s the obvious influence of all the genres Hunter listens to. He’s a music nerd, and it shows. The One That Got Away is a clever play on the phrase itself, and smacks of dancing in your living room or taking a long drive with the windows down. It truly gets better and better with every listen, and should be on everyone’s playlist.
