Like many others have noted, Joi is, unfortunately, not known as well as she should be. Uniquely classic, Joi consistenly produces reliably inventive and worthwhile music that one can listen to again and again.

This is a great album. As hard as money is to come by these days, you won't regret this purchase. Notable songs: "I'm So Famous" (my theme song), "Another Rocket", "Dance With Yesterday", "Co-Star's". RIP Whild Peach...one of last albums that captures her angellic voice.

I can't really say r&b album because its so diverse, it goes from r&b to jazz to rock, to hip-hop, etc the album in its entirety is almost like a movie, i saw other reviews talking about the interludes but i believe they make the album even more creative and interesting and make the album more into a story called tennessee slim is the bomb, more albums should be like this, in fact more artists should be like this, i haven't heard any of her previous albums in full, but if their anything like this, itunes definatly needs to add them.

I have acquired the crowning glory of my entire music collection and Ihave some gems (on vinyl, cassettes, etc...). And also waited YEARS for the release and it took me another year to find out about its availability. I didn't even know that it dropped. I happened to stumble across the fact that it was available on itunes while roaming the net. She IS my favorite female vocalist. The voice is all that one could wish for. The lyrics make the experience complete I'm gifting this music and am spreading the word to all. Gotta see her live though, I heard she is even more incredible. [All my devotion] phoenix

I was forewarned about the "Uncle Speaks" interludes so I just deleted them. This whole album is raw! Joi always brings the funk and the synthesizers! The R&B tracks are just as hot but in a totally different way. Joi's voice is so damn pure. Her lyrics make you feel her pain, uncertainty, devotion, and anger with her ex(es). I think some of those hurtful thoughts she shares are all about ex-husband Big Gipp of Goodie Mob fame, and others about a mysterious lover. It feels like we are peeking into her bedroom and her life. "Maybe" as well as "Dance With Yesterday" are just magnificent! Other hot azz track are, "I'm So Famous" and "That's The Truth." Joi shows that she can switch genres with old school (1940's) jazz on "I Love You Forever,Right Now" and brings the crunk with "Say,Say Lil' Fine A*s Ni**ah."

This is one of the very few CD's I've purchased in my entire life. I give it 4 stars cus of "Uncle speaking" in between every other track - it was kinda annoying. Anyway, every song has its own vibe and that's what I like about it the most. You can't just get by with listening to one or two songs, you gotta listen to every one. I do have a favorite, "I'm So Famous"....it took me a long time to understand what she was talking about, but it made me think real hard! When I figured it out, I really connected with the song. Her lyrics are the best part...the music is fabolous too. I'm not a sould/funk person, but her sound is never the same! It's a great CD, period!

I've loved Joi's music since I first heard "Sunshine and the Rain". It was something about it. It was quite moody, dark and rhythmic - like sunshine and rain. I don't know where my head was and where I was when I heard it, but it just made me think - this is great, I gotta have this! So I purchased the tape and I loved it, eventhough no one I knew was into the single or the album Pendulum Vibe. Flash forward...Joi disappeared only to re-emerge with Star Kitty's Revenge. I had to have it. It was YEARS since her last album and even with many cameos and a stint with Lucy Pearl, I was not "fixed" until I had THAT CD in my possession. I loved it! It was freaky, honest, and explorative. So here I sit with her latest installment of hits - TENNESSEE SLIM IS THE BOMB! 'Nuff Said in the title because it is the BOMB! Albeit, I'm late as h*ll getting it ( it came out in April), I'm still glad to have it. This time Joi is heartbroken and not afraid to explore the valleys of love's vicissitude. Unlike other artist I've heard who have devoted an album to relationships, Joi rhythmically (and sometimes sarcastically) goes to all sides of the table to get the best angle only to deliver the 8 ball in the corner pocket on being "in" love, being "out" of love, infatuation, lust, and redemption. Last, the best thing, with the exception of one song, I can listen to this album from beginning to end loving every lyric and beat on it. Don't underestimate Joi, you want this CD in your collection.
