Needs a couple listens

When I first heard this disc from You Am I vocalist/songwriter Tim Rogers I was a little confused. Where are the Replacements influences? Where are the drunken and beautiful pop songs he recorded with the band over the years? After a few listens however I came to realize that these songs of ramshackle blues are the perfect compliment to his more accessable work with You Am I. There's an undercurrent of Tom Waits in these recordings as if Tim spent some time walking through Prague in the dark cold of Feburary. And after a few listens I came to the conclusion that this is just as good if not better than his stuff with the band. If you're a fan of You Am I or if you're a fan of carnivalesque blues give this disc a couple of spins. It may not hit you immediatley but it might quietly creep into your head and heart when you're not looking.
