The music doesn't get old....

I have been listening to this album over and over since it came out, going on five weeks ago. Joey Alexander is still very young, and his music has a humble, spiritual quality that I hope he can hang onto as he grows older. I'm getting a bit tired of the preaching and the politics that are being forced on the jazz listener these days, and these sincere melodic pieces are a breath of fresh air. At first I was not excited by the two flute-accompanied tracks, but they have grown on me, especially "Light," which closes the CD and reminds me of Dave Brubeck and Bobby Militello on "Quiet as the Moon." If Joey Alexander keeps going as long as Brubeck did (with whom he shares admirable traits of humility and faith), he has about 75 yeras left!
