Sounds like POP (“it’s got a beat and you can dance to it”)…

HOWEVER, the compositions reveal the same cool-ness and subtlety of lyrics as before; in other words THIS IS NOT POP, per se. Of course there’s a drum beat, but not necessarily where one might expect, and Asa still designs tempo and uses rhythm as the perfect setting for the ideas and observations he expresses.
Compton is my dream drummer just as Clem Burke was back in the day; these men obliterate the need of any “drum machine” and enjoy the freedom of riffing—at will—on their own riffs. The guitar, bass and keyboards support each sudden turn and add the coalescence that does not exist in the cover versions although these productions are fun turns on the originals.
Asa Taccone remains the Tasmanian Devil, his singing and dancing kicking up all sorts of dust that never settles on anything, ever. His self-expression is delightfully, electrically energetic and self-aware without the self-admiration. To grasp what soulfulness means, listen as Taccone slides and glides all over, under and through every beat, coloring his emphases with just the right configuration of baritone/tenor/falsetto (counter-tenor) producing his unique melodic singspiel; nobody sounds like Taccone, and, upon hearing a couple of measures, you know exactly who and what you’re listening to.🎶
(I have a playlist of all their stuff and it’s set for perpetual repeat.😎)

Enjoying it as a full listen. But there are a few songs that hit hard. There are music videos that are great “more”.
Play it on repeat

Been giving it a few months to see if it grows on me. Didn’t happen, this album hurts to listen to as a huge fan of their music.
Terrible.

If you like their previous work, don’t just blindly buy this. What a disappointment. Wish I could get a refund.
Used to "have it bad" for them...

...unfortunately, not so much anymore.
But props to them for finding their sound - as I suspect what came out of Mondo was more DM's than theirs.

I can’t even pick a favorite song. While Dollar, Play With Me, and More are amazing, these new songs do an AMAZING job pulling the album together. I can’t even pick my favorite one! Song after song it gets better and better!
