This is a group of serious Bay Area musicians that I have seen many times. They are all classically trained but can skip genres like nobody can, staying loosely in the Americana or roots music area. Warren Hood, as the newest Wayback, is not only an incredibly accomplished fiddle player, but he has a devine soprano voice that will unstitch male and female alike. There is a real fine reason that he has played with Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Kean, Little Feat, and many more. James Nash moves his fingers on a guitar like I have never seen and could go anywhere in the music business that he would like. Both Hood and Nash switch effortlessly to mandolin too. With tight drumming and bass playing accomplished by Chuck Hamilton and Joe Kyle, forces of their own, The Waybacks deliver on everything. They just about brought the house down a couple of years ago at Merlefest when Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead joined them. Even though Deadheads would probably line up to kill me, The Waybacks may have been the tightest band he has ever played with. They have a new CD coming in early 2008. Look out, cause these guys just keep getting better.
