One of the best top ten shows of all time. This is a must have for any Dead fan.

Pristine recording made by Betty-Cantor Jackson. Audience tapes are floating around by Jerry Moore, mastered by Charlie Miller. Get your hands on them if you can. This was the tape that got me into the Grateful Dead. Specifically, the Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain jam. I've heard it countless times, and it never gets old...it's absolutley, without a doubt, one of the greatest pieces of music I've heard in my life. And, when dealing with such logic as that, the music around that must also be some high calibre playing. The first set standards are all extremely well played, yet loose. I've heard one reviewer say that around the Spring '77 tour, the music was playing the band...this goes into a longer discussion, but take that to heart. And, most of all, enjoy the music. It doesn't belong to anyone, so make it yours. Peace To All Human Beings * Nuck

For those who rated anything less than 5 stars: what concert were you listening to?? Because it couldn’t have been this one. Doesn’t get any better than this - thank God it’s now available to download - my tapes are worn out!

I just caught a video of Bob Weir saying this concrt never happened—that it was actually a CIA covert op. What's the real truth of this show?
  • Great instrumentals, spotty vocals

The Dead's lyrics were always spotty (at least post-Pigpen, who was the only legit vocalist the band ever had), but this recording's vocals are spotty on top of spotty. Don't know if it was the band, the mix, or some combination, but it's disappointing. A lot of great lyrics lost in the mud.

A classic show from an awesome era and an excellent album I’m glad to purchase whole. A great accompanying piece to Dicks Picks 3.

This show. Holy crap. Felt almost like listening to the dead for the very first time! Every jam is sensational, vocals are perfect, by far the best live show of the Grateful Dead.

Being a fan of the Grateful Dead their live recordings have been rated by many people. I used to think Europe 72' was their premier life recording before the soundboard releases in the late 90's. 9/27/72, 4/26/72, 11/6/69, 9/3/77, 8/27/72 and 12/29/77. The 12/29/77 was my fave because of the sheer level of Jerrys playing. For years i've heard the legend of the Cornell show on 5/8/77. Some called the most overrated Dead show ever along with the greatest. When this show became avavable in a high quality release i bought it right away, I must say i was not disappointed The second set is epic with all time best versions of Scarlet Begonias, Fire on the Mountain, and of course a soaring Morning Dew. This show has now become my favorite Dead recording, truly epic.
