Not his best

I'm finding I really don't enjoy this as much as I want to. Clark is a genius at meshing ideas that don't seem to go together, but here the seams feel jarring and forced. What some reviews are calling "accessible" moments just feel simplistic to me, like the piece made mostly of major key harpsichord scales. I do love the use of human voices but the children's choir ("We are your ancestors...") feels corny to me where I think it was aiming for moving.

This really is one of the more stunning and upbeat albums from Clark in a long while, in fact in many ways it shows the maturity of his songwriting but just caving into his own particular sound. It's a very cohesive album, every song seems to flow seemlessly right into the next, the sound design is thoroughly entrancing, it's just a great album from beginning to end.
