Alex Newell is showing what it means to be a force in dance music. "Need Somebody" feels fresh and retro and I like it!
"Need Somebody" continues what I see is a fantastic future in the industry. Do I hear Mr. Nile Rodgers hand in this--especially the guitar heard here. Can't wait for the album, so far it's promising to extraordinary.
His sound is fantastic from his collaborations to his Power EP. He is choosing incredible songs to showcase his voice. And Atlantic has given him incredible support.
If anyone Alex carries the torch that Sylvester began in 1960s, he is it. RuPaul is awesome, but he's a drag queen--something Sylvester was never. Sylvester bent gender long before it was called transgender. And like Sylvester, Alex is not a drag queen but like Sylvester is an artist that just is comfortable--in heals, hair extensions, or whatever else just being true to himself. He's a role model and remains true dance music.
