Matthew McAllister's guitar playing is very musical, very well performed. I just happened onto his recordings earlier today for the first time, and am impressed. Being a guitar player and recording engineer myself, I especially enjoy the modern, clear recording. This is not your old typical recording of Segovia, where, as beautiful as that is, it’s often hard to hear the details, the nuance. We in the 21st century have been blessed with incredible recording technology, and the French Collection uses it in the best way. There is a real immersion in the music, and what’s better than that?! The pieces themselves also seem quite rare, at least I’ve not heard them before. All in all quite worth the price of admission!
