Their best

If you are just discovering Pink Floyd via the release of Dark Side Live and 50th Anniversary versions, this is the next album to buy. It represents everything they were. The Wall, although more popular was more of a forced effort to confirm. This is true Pink Floyd. Turn down the lights and turn up the music. It’s magic!

So besides Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon" that was the only album I loved from the band. One day as I was listening to my rock mix on Spotify and the song "Dogs" came on. Despite it being a 17 minute song, I actually like the song. As a matter of fact, when I drive home from work, I find myself listening to the whole entire album at least twice a week. I do agree with most of the post when many said it was an underrated album. They are correct. Definitely on my Christmas list of albums I want to own. Beside "Dogs" my favorite songs are "Sheep" and "Pigs on the Wing 2"
Just not there!

It’s like the band was stuck in a rut after Wish You Were Here! They tried too hard on focusing on long compositions & really hurt the writing over all!! Just never felt “it” with this album!!
HUGE FLoYD fan

I bought this album on 8-track back when it was first released. I’m a HUGE PF/Dave Gilmour fan and consider DG the Grand Master of all guitar masters. A couple of his guitar solos are the only guitar works by anyone that have brought a tear or two to my eyes. I consider both post Waters albums, “A Momentary Lapse Of Reason” and “The Division Bell”, to be true MASTERPIECES of musical artistry that are nearly up there with “The Dark Side Of The Moon”! So I’ve TRIED to like the songs of the “Animals” album. Lord knows I’ve tried. But they do nothing at all for me :-(
Try the 2018 Remaster

This is a great album for sure… I have been listening to it for decades. But I recently stumbled upon the 2018 remaster, and it is hard to express how much better this remaster is than the original. This is not just some duplicate copy with the hissing and cracking cut out. It’s been remixed with all of the right things fixed, and all of the right things left alone. Fuller, deeper, wider, brighter … I might not listen the original again. Seriously.
You got to be crazy!!

While Animals isn’t my favorite Pink Floyd album, it’s easily my second favorite.
The whole concept of the album is very prescient and timeless. Sure, it’s loosely based on the writings of Orwell, but I think that those themes combined with the music of this album really brings it to life in ways that a written or spoken word can’t. Honestly, I think it would be interesting to see an Animal Farm or 1984 film that fits with Pink Floyd’s music.
The three epics in this album have this feeling of anger, confusion, envy, and existentialism: all things that we continue to experience in modern capitalist society. Every time I listen to this album, it’s a new experience and gets me to think even more. And I think the album cover of the Battersea Power Station with the flying pig is probably the best representation for what they wanted to show what this album was all about. And it’s also my favorite album cover.
Maybe people, including many Pink Floyd fans, don’t like this album and I’m not sure why. I think it’s because it’s very overtly political and not subtle. But then at the same time, will praise The Wall (my favorite Pink Floyd album), which is not subtle whatsoever. But, I think when you listen to Animals, you will find some much within it lyrically and musically.
Of the epics, my favorites are:
Sheep
Dogs
Pigs
All are great songs though. You all should give it a listen.
Heavy Floyd

Definitely the group’s heaviest album. David Gilmour’s playing on this album is ridiculous. If you love classic rock guitar, this album is like the Gold Standard. It has it all. Acoustic, multiple solos, harmonies, feedback, overdubs. Animals delivers.
