a tense and curious space

that fine line between feeling at ease and feeling on edge is what permeates ilimaq from start to finish. imagine being alone in the woods on a beautiful day, absorbing your surroundings. one moment you feel as one with nature, the next you feel alone and afraid. JLA perfect captures that balance of intrigue and intimidation that one feels in a foreign environment. as with his other works, this music is about creating a space with sound. it is especially fitting then that JLA makes use of electronics to complement Glenn kotche with a limitless palette of textures. often the lines between the electronics and kotche's percussion are blurred, taking attention away from any individual person and emphasizing the sound itself. this is a true achievement in sound design.
Another homerun...

Glenn and JLA hit another homerun with their respective roles in the creation of this masterwork!
JLA’s new paradigm

elated to see what JLA came up with for digital processing to engulf Glenn's drum kit, and how that fits into his earthly, elemental sound. i feel like the world of electronic sound design is so ideal for JLA's philosophy in its world-creation potential, and antithetical at the same time because it's opposite real nature. Ilimaq was super illuminating for me.
