  • Wordsworth and Donel Smokes get off to a great start in 'New Beginning'

Rhyme natural and conscious emcee Wordsworth of Punch 'N' Words and Dino 5 just got done releasing an LP, The Tonite Show, with his eMC group (Masta Ace, Stricklin, Wordsworth) back in May but there is no rest for the weary with this Brooklyn rapper. He just released another project, New Beginning, with producer Donel Smokes last Friday, Sept. 18. This marks Words' third studio album outside his group work and follows Mirror Music from 2004 and The Photo Album from 2012. A true, quality hip-hop artisan, Wordsworth (Vinson Johnson) has crafted a real and creative musical portrait capturing a panoramic view of human interaction and the different tones and shades of our emotions. It's as elaborate as a study of life can get in forty-three minutes, but Words has plenty of guest help to assist him plus compatible, active chemistry with his beat-mining producer/partner. All over New Beginning are carefully brainstormed rhymes in sturdy verses from the expert Wordsworth and his emcee friends. To boot, they detail useful, interesting observations. In their respective tracks, Words embellishes on the bumpy story of a lifelong couple and their enduring love, chronicles some deteriorating relationships, describes other unsavory characters and examines the natural yet destructive dark side in all human beings. And, if those notes leave you less than happy, Wordsworth mixes it up with positive, feel-good rhymes and vibes, enriching spirit-lifters, and other lyrics of life that will open listeners up to a far larger world than their insular perspectives might limit them with. It's a big planet out there, and Words definitely helps to open up our outlook. For an artist like Wordsworth who has been active for well over a decade to release his third 'solo' album so late is a milestone indeed, and since he is doing just this with such a moving, thought-provoking collection of songs, it really means that much more on top of statistics. He is respectful to hip-hop, more concerned with meaning and material over money obviously and does a ton of great cypher work here. His guests are Range Da Messenga, Blu, Masta Ace, Pearl Gates, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Adanita Ross, Queen Herawin, Stricklin and SigNif, and special props go out to Donel Smokes for finding and harnessing that Wordsworth sound and forming a distinguished duo with him along the way. New Beginning doesn't have the shock of explicitly profane music, but it does reverberate with virtually everyone and what they're going through.

Thank you, most of the old school underground artist do not use updated dope beats. Glad to FINALLY see a dope lyricist level of skills match the producer. So many times it will either be dope beats and trash lyrics or dope lyrics and trash beats. Finally, some one from my era actually got it right!!!! Good job Wordsworth & Donel Smokes. I will get a iTunes card tomorrow to download this joint. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
